The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Allen B. McFadden (ASN: 31352649), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 117th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 23 October 1944, in Germany. While Private McFadden’s anti-tank company was being subjected to severe shell fire from enemy batteries, one shell made a direct hit nearby, wounding one man and inflicting injuries and burns on the other. Private McFadden, with utter disregard for his own safety, left the protection of his covered shelter, and under the continuing shell fire ran to the aid of the wounded men and helped to remove them to a place where they could receive medical attention. The bravery and unhesitating action displayed by Private McFadden unquestionably saved the lives of two of his comrades. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private McFadden, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
