(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Staff Sergeant Lawrence E. McDowell, United States Army, was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving with the 104th Infantry Division, in Holland, in October 1944. Staff Sergeant McDowell constantly exposed himself to enemy fire and by his efforts materially aided in breaking up a German counterattack. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
