The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, 20 July 1942, takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Lieutenant Colonel John Dean Veatch (ASN: 0-93992), United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States from 8 June 1974 to 31 July 1982 while serving in a succession of demanding and significant positions to include Test Director, U.S. Army Infantry Board; Chief of Inspections, U.S. Army Western Command; and Department of the Army System Coordinator for the Corps Support Weapon System, Surface-to-Surface Team Chief, and Executive Officer, Missiles and Air Defense Systems Division, Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Research, Development, and Acquisition. Outstanding leadership, loyalty, and integrity characterize Lieutenant Colonel Veatch’s Army career, culminating over 21 years of faithful and dedicated service to his country. Lieutenant Colonel Veatch’s continued outstanding performance of duty reflects great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
