The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant June R. McCloud (ASN: 35206649), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 5th Armored Division, in action against the enemy in in France, on 3 August 1944, 17 August 1944, and 20 August 1944. On one occasion Sergeant McCloud advanced under fire to silence a machine gun nest with grenades. On another occasion when his platoon was pinned down by enemy fire from machine guns and small arms. Sergeant McCloud stood up and silenced two machine guns with grenades. On still another occasion Sergeant McCloud voluntarily manned a half track and drove it to safety amid the close bursting to several shells from enemy 88-mm. guns. At all times Sergeant McCloud has shown complete disregard for his own life. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Sergeant McCloud, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
