The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal [then Private First Class] John A. McCall (ASN: 20400310), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the Military Police Platoon, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy from 18 to 26 December 1944, in Belgium. Corporal McCall was sent to an important town which was undergoing succeeding aerial bombardments. At the risk of his life, he entered burning buildings to carry out the injured and recover the bodies of the dead. Again, while on duty at a traffic pose within the town, a bomb landed fifteen yards away demolishing a building which housed American soldiers. Corporal McCall immediately entered it and dug the wounded rom the debris. He saved the lives of four of his comrades by these heroic actions. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Corporal McCall, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
