The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Technician Fifth Grade Kenneth L. Martinson (ASN: 36832318), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the Medical Detachment, 315th Infantry Regiment, 79th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 8 July 1944 in France. During an intense enemy mortar barrage Technician Fifth Grade Martinson voluntarily braved the fire to render aid to the wounded who were lying in an exposed position. While he was thus engaged he was instantly killed by an artillery burst. For his spirit of self sacrifice and his complete disregard for his own safety in the performance of his duties Technician Fifth Grade Martinson reflects highest credit on himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
