The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Arne A. Luoma (ASN: 36545278), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 21 March 1945, in Germany. Private First Class Luoma and a comrade heroically remained at a boat guarding it against enemy action while other members of their party went on a patrol across the Rhine River into enemy territory. When their comrades returned, they noiselessly prepared the boat for the return crossing. Private First Class Luoma’s courageous action aided greatly in obtaining much information vital to the crossing of the river at a later period. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private First Class Luoma, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
