The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Raymond W. Locke (ASN: 33902153), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 743d Tank Battalion (Separate), attached to the 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 19 November 1944, in Germany. When forced to leave their disabled tank during an attack, Corporal Locke and a companion heard a wounded infantrymen calling for help. Disregarding intense enemy shell fire falling in the sector, Corporal Locke and his comrade heroically made their way to the wounded man, administered first aid, and the prepared a sheltered position in which they laide him. Corporal Locke’s gallantry reflects great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Armed Forces.
