The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Enos David Lloyd-Jones, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 2d Infantry Regiment, 5th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in France, on 13 September 1944. First Lieutenant Lloyd-Jones commanded a platoon during an attack on an enemy strong point. Proceeding up a draw and across open terrain, First Lieutenant Lloyd-Jones’ platoon, together with the platoon on the right, was pinned down by heavy machine gun and rifle fire. First Lieutenant Lloyd-Jones, in utter disregard for his own safety, exposed himself to enemy fire in order to more effectively withdraw both platoons. Later the same day, First Lieutenant Lloyd-Jones again led his platoon in attacks and assisted the platoon on the right. Coming under heavy enemy machine gun, mortar, and artillery fire, First Lieutenant Lloyd-Jones was killed while requesting supporting fire on the radio. First Lieutenant Lloyd-Jones’ gallantry in action reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
