The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Lloyd L. LeClair (ASN: 0-63115), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Headquarters Company, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 1 September 1950 in the vicinity of Am-Sin, Korea. On that date Lieutenant LeClair volunteered to lead a patrol with the mission of clearing a roadblock and recovering vehicles lost in an enemy ambush. As the patrol moved forward they were subjected to severe hostile artillery and mortar fire. Setting an example of personal bravery, he led his force forward until the roadblock had been reached. Because of darkness he delayed the attack and dug in for the night. At dawn, supported by two tanks, he led his patrol forward against a numerically superior enemy force that was well-entrenched on commanding ground. With complete disregard for his personal safety, he moved to the front of the attacking line, shouting encouragement to his troops. His fearless actions and disregard for the heavy enemy fire so inspired the members of his patrol that they closed with the enemy and drove them off with severe casualties. The gallantry and inspirational leadership displayed by Lieutenant LeClair reflect great credit upon himself and are in keeping with the fine traditions of the military service.
