The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Bert Lieberman (ASN: 35521718), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy from 4 October 1944 to 12 October 1944, in Germany. Although he suffered painful cuts and bruises from one of many artillery shells which fell all about his position, Private First Class Lieberman refused to leave his post but continued under these extremely hazardous conditions to call for artillery fire which caused severe damage to the enemy. Although he was again hurled about by another shell, he still refused to leave but when about the added task of servicing telephone lines which were under sniper fire. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private First Class Lieberman, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
