Headquarters, 30th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 217 (November 16, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry), [then Second Lieutenant] Jean LePage (ASN: 0-1056778), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 1 January 1945, in Belgium. First Lieutenant LePage led a raiding party with the mission of reconnoitering enemy positions, and to capture an enemy soldier to secure additional information on enemy movements. When contact was made with the enemy, intense machine gun fire was received and two men were killed, First Lieutenant LePage moved toward one of the machine gun position, and when but twelve yards away from it he came upon an enemy rifleman whom he promptly took prisoner. Despite the hazards of being fired upon, he succeeded in making his way back to his unit. He then led his small group back to the main body and sent the prisoner to the rear for interrogation. The bravery, aggressive determination, and exemplary leadership exhibited by First Lieutenant LePage reflect great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Armed Forces.
