The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Anthony D. Leone (ASN: 33777388), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the Medical Detachment, 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 8 August 1944, in France. Despite intense artillery and mortar fire which took a heavy toll of casualties in Private First Class Leone’s section, he left the comparative safety of his foxhole to administer first aid to the wounded. While thus engaged he was wounded by shell fragments but continued his work until all the men were treated and evacuated. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private First Class Leone, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
