The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Roger C. Lee (ASN: 14031366), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the *** Infantry Regiment, 83d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 6 August 1944, near *****, France. Private First Class Lee was a member of a scouting party sent ahead to search out an orchard and hedgerow. Suddenly the party was fired upon from the front and flanks by enemy machine guns. Private First Class Lee was injured and the other members of the party were killed. Despite his wound Private First Class Lee remained in the field of fire and when an attack was launched on the position he jumped to his feet and joined in the assault. He heroically continued his participation his wound forced him to submit to medical treatment. Private First Class Lee’s conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty reflects great credit upon himself and the finest traditions of the military service.
