Lester Lampert graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Class of 1939. He retired in 1961 as a U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel. During World War II while he was serving in combat in Europe, his father by the same name and a 1914 USMA graduate was serving as a U.S. Army Colonel in China.

    (Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Major (Infantry) Lester Leland Lampert, Jr., United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as Commanding Officer of an Infantry Battalion of the 410th Infantry Regiment, 103d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in the European Theater of Operations, in January 1945. Major Lampert led his battalion in stemming the German’s January attack into Alsace at Schilersdorf. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Major Lampert, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
