The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Frank C. Klataske, Jr. (ASN: 37625667), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 18 October 1944, in Germany. Sergeant Klataske courageously made his way, across three hundred yards of terrain swept by enemy mortar and artillery fire to repair a break in the communications line between his platoon and the company command post. Finding upon returning to his platoon that the line was still dead, Sergeant Klataske unhesitatingly retraced his steps and for the second time exposed himself to heavy fire in order to locate and repair another break which had occurred in the wire. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Sergeant Klataske, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
