The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Clair H. Kilton (ASN: 0-1316163), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 117th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 13 April 1945, in Germany. First Lieutenant Kilton advanced through a hail of enemy fire to contact a pinned down squad and to direct the fire of two other squads in eliminating an enemy strongpoint which was holding up the advance. He then advanced through intense fire on several more occasions to eliminate other strongpoints. By his outstanding courage, First Lieutenant Kilton was able to keep the attack going at a rapid pace. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by First Lieutenant Kilton, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
