The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Technician Fourth Grade Daniel Kijak (ASN: 32917021), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the Medical Detachment, 315th Infantry Regiment, 79th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 9 July 1944 in France. When casualties were heavy as a result of the intense concentration of enemy artillery and mortar fire, Technician Fourth Grade Kijak was mortally wounded while attending the wounded who were lying in exposed areas. He repeatedly risked his life in an effort to aid those who were in the greatest danger. His utter disregard for his own safety and his zealous devotion to duty reflect the highest credit on him and the military forces of the United States.
