The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Uriah Kidd (ASN: 393411589), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company E, 2d Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Germany. On 20 March 1945, at 1100 hours, near Contwig, Germany, Private First Class Kidd, armed only with a carbine, attacked an enemy pillbox and engaged its thirteen occupants in a ten-minute firefight. Although hostile bullets narrowly missed him, Private First Class Kidd delivered such effective carbine fire that one enemy soldier was killed and six others surrendered. A few minutes later Private First Class Kidd called for a squad of riflemen who blasted the pillbox and forced the remaining enemy to surrender. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private First Class Kidd, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
