    (Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Silver Star to Captain (Infantry) John E. Kent (ASN: 0-404259), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 117th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in the European Theater of Action in 1944 and 1945. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Captain Kent, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.

    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Infantry) John E. Kent (ASN: 0-404259), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 117th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 2 October 1944, in Germany. Captain Kent was serving as a Company Commander with an Infantry Battalion engaged in an assault on the Siegfried Line. When the attack was halted by the desperate resistance encountered, Captain Kent voluntarily moved forward to the assault elements of his company and by demonstrated leadership and bravery inspired his men to their maximum endeavors. Through his gallant actions the enemy fortresses which were holding up the advance of his company were neutralized and the objective reached. The inspiring leadership and aggressive initiative displayed by Captain Kent on this occasion were a material contribution to the successful breaking of the enemy’s west wall. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Captain Kent, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
