Headquarters, 30th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 129 (December 20, 1944)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Robert C. Kendrick, Jr. (ASN: 34921684), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 117th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 16 September 1944, in Holland. While the regiment was moving in column into enemy-held territory, the leading company was ambushed and the leading platoon isolated from the remainder of the company. At great risk to his life, Private First Class Kendrick, the company runner, carried a plan of attack from the company commander to the isolated platoon, despite the fact that the area through which he moved was covered with heavy enemy fire and there was imminent danger of death or capture. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private First Class Kendrick, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
