The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private William J. Kehoe, Jr. (ASN: 32594932), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 15th Tank Battalion, 6th Armored Division, in action against the enemy in the vicinity of Loraine, France, on 17 August 1944. During an engagement with the enemy, Private Kehoe made his way, in defiance of enemy machine guns, to a forward observation post which was under fire, carrying critically needed medicines for a wounded soldier. His gallantry and undaunted courage reflect great credit upon himself and are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service.
