Headquarters, 30th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 122 (December 14, 1944)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Bruno J. Kalinauskas (ASN: 16059002), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 18 October 1944, in Germany. Sergeant Kalinauskas’ company had moved into a position which was receiving heavy fire from the enemy. In order to neutralize the hostile effort, Sergeant Kalinauskas set up a machine gun position at an exposed place within a partially destroyed building. He was observed by the enemy while he was preparing his position and received extremely heavy fire from a machine gun a short distance away. Undaunted, Sergeant Kalinauskas persevered until his gun was in action, whereupon he silenced the hostile gun. An enemy tank began delivering direct fire at the building, but Sergeant Kalinauskas remained at his post causing considerable casualties in the ranks of the enemy and enabling his comrades to advance successfully. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Sergeant Kalinauskas, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
