The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technical Sergeant Russell G. Jury (ASN: 33233189), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company F, 314th Infantry Regiment, 79th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 23 February 1945 in Germany. When an attacking platoon encountered an enemy mine field and machine gun fire, it was forced to withdraw leaving behind a lead scout who had been injured by an exploding mine. Sergeant Jury, platoon sergeant, requested and obtained permission to attempt a rescue. He crawled under the intense hostile fire and through the dangerous mine field, and although he was wounded by an enemy hand grenade, he succeeded in reaching the wounded man and in dragging him to a place of safety. The great courage and determination displayed by Sergeant Jury in behalf of another soldier reflect highest credit on himself and the armed forces of the United States.
