The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Daniel R. Jesionowski (ASN: 35921258), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 24 March 1945, in Germany. After landing with the assault wave of his company in the Rhine River crossing, heavy enemy machine gun fire was directed at the landing site. Private First Class Jesionowski, armed with a sub machine gun, aggressively advanced alone on the enemy position, moved to within ten yards of it, and poured such withering fire at the position that the four occupants surrendered to him. Private First Class Jesionowski’s heroic actions prevented many casualties and allowed the company’s advance. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private First Class Jesionowski, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
