The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant [then Corporal] Robert F. Jones (ASN: 12033132), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 28 February 1945, in Germany. Sergeant Jones exposed himself to fierce enemy fire for a period of fifteen minutes to hold open a gate to enable his squad to fire at the enemy who were using a building as a shelter. The resulting fire from his squad enabled another squad to enter the gate and rush the building and capture eight enemy soldiers. Sergeant Jones’ gallant actions at a great personal risk reflect great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the Armed Forces.
