Jones (ASN: 0-2010865), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 743d Tank Battalion (Separate), attached to the 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 27 March 1945, in Germany. Second Lieutenant Jones and a comrade heroically advanced under fierce enemy fire to reach the wounded of an encircled unit. He administered first aid and made two trips under the continuing fire to evacuate the wounded to the rear to safety. His gallant action was a source of inspiration to all who witnessed his actions and was in keeping with the highest traditions of the Armed Forces of the United States.

Jones (ASN: 0-2010865), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 743d Tank Battalion (Separate), attached to the 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in the European Theater of Operations, in 1944 and 1945. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Second Lieutenant Jones, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.

    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting a Second Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Third Award of the Silver Star to Second Lieutenant (Infantry) Robert C. Jones (ASN: 0-2010865), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with 743d Tank Battalion (Separate), attached to the 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 15 April 1945, in Germany. Although his tank was hit three times, Second Lieutenant Jones continued directing the attack of his tanks despite the persistent enemy fire. Observing an enemy soldier about to place fire on his tank, Second Lieutenant Jones stood up in the turret in full view of the enemy and destroyed the enemy soldier before damage could be inflicted on his tank. Second Lieutenant Jones’ gallant actions materially assisted the advance of the Infantry and reflect great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Armed Forces.

Jones (ASN: 0-2010865), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 743d Tank Battalion (Separate), attached to the 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 8 April 1945, in Germany. Second Lieutenant Jones led a tank attack against fierce enemy resistance in an effort to recover lost vehicles from an enemy-held town. He dismounted on three occasions and moved about under intense small arms fire to reconnoiter routes of approach for the tanks of his platoon. Second Lieutenant Jones’ gallant actions aided materially in destroying enemy opposition and resulted in the capture of fifty prisoners. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Second Lieutenant Jones, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
