The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fifth Grade Edward E. Jones (ASN: 34372508), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 7 August 1944, in France. Technician Fifth Grade Jones was on a motorized patrol with a group of his comrades when they were ambushed by a numerically superior enemy force. Despite the nearness of the enemy and the heavy volume of small arms fire they directed at the group, Technician Fifth Grade Jones gallantly held his position and later covered the withdrawal of his comrades with such effectiveness that no additional casualties were sustained. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Technician Fifth Grade Jones, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
