The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Robert H. Johnstone (ASN: 0-384113), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 117th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy from 17 April 1945 to 18 April 1945, in Germany. First Lieutenant Johnstone exposed himself to intense enemy as well as friendly fire to call for fire and direct his men in repulsing three enemy counterattacks. Many of the enemy were killed and seven taken captive. First Lieutenant Johnstone, by his outstanding courage, prevented them from infiltrating friendly lines and causing serious damage. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by First Lieutenant Johnstone, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
