(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: First Lieutenant (Infantry) Donald C. Johnson, United States Army, was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving with the 34th Infantry Division during World War II. While leading his platoon up a strongly defended enemy hill, Lieutenant Johnson encountered intense machine gun fire and was forced to seek another route. The platoon was spotted by enemy machine guns which opened fire at 200 yards. Ordering his men to take cover, Lieutenant Johnson moved through the withering fire to within 100 yards of the enemy. He killed four, wounded two other of the enemy, and captured two. the action eliminated the hostile position.
