The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Donald I. Jarvis, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as a Medical Aidman with the 43d Infantry Division during the Luzon Liberation Campaign in the Philippine Islands during World War II. Private First Class Jarvis volunteered to evacuate a seriously wounded man with the squad. During the course of travel to the injured soldier, one member of the squad was killed and another was wounded by enemy fire. Private First Class Jarvis, although himself wounded, rendered assistance and successfully evacuated his wounded comrade through enemy fire to safety. He displayed great courage and devotion beyond the call of duty. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
