Headquarters, 30th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 181 (July 6, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Sergeant Ronald H. Jacobs (ASN: 37475774), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 17 April 1945, in Germany. While Sergeant Jacob’s mortar squad was assisting in clearing the enemy from a town, it was pinned down by heavy automatic fire from a building. Armed only with a pistol and accompanied by two companions, Sergeant Jacobs courageously approached the position by rushes and thrust open the door of the building. He was met with a burst of machine gun fire which narrowly missed him. Sergeant Jacobs returned the fire, wounding the enemy gunner, but an instant later was killed by a second burst from the wounded gunner. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Sergeant Jacobs, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
