The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Glendall Jackson (ASN: 34656717), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company E, 2d Battalion, 13th Infantry Regiment, 8th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 23 February 1945, in the vicinity of Duren, Germany. While under intense enemy small arms, machine gun and artillery fire, Private Jackson aided in carrying assault boats across open terrain to the Roer River. After crossing the river, he came upon nine Germans taking cover in a trench and with his rifle, killed two and captured the remaining seven. His great courage and devotion to duty reflected great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
