The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Edward F. Jaber (ASN: 16005283), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Battery B, 9th Field Artillery Battalion, 36th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy near San Fratello, Sicily, on 5 August 1943. Private First Class Jaber ran to the side of a wounded man who lay near a burning ammunition truck and carried him to a position 65 yards distant. In spite of the enemy shells which fell at the rate of four rounds per minute, he rendered first aid to the wounded man for ten minutes until medical aid arrived. His prompt action saved the life of the injured man. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
