Headquarters, 30th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 38 (August 17, 1944)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Andrew J. Imro, Jr. (ASN: 33392767), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 24 July 1944. A vehicle loaded with small arms ammunition belonging to the infantry unit to which Private Imro was assigned was set afire by a bomb which cropped in the area during an operation against the enemy. The blaze caused the ammunition to explode, creating a hazardous situation during which members of the organization were wounded. With utter disregard for his self-preservation, Private Imro voluntarily left the safety of his slit trench and crawled to the side of one of his stricken comrades, evacuating him to safety. As soon as he was satisfied that the wounded man was safe, he immediately turned and plunged back into the danger area to duplicate the gallant act and bring another wounded man to sanctuary. The outstanding courage and initiative exhibited by Private Imro reflect great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Armed Forces.
