(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Sergeant James W. Huffman (ASN: 33700090), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 135th Infantry Regiment, 34th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Italy, in 1943 and 1944. Sergeant Huffman charged straight at hostile gun emplacements, attracting the full fury of the enemy fire in order to permit his platoon to escape from an open field where it had been pinned down by fire from two German machine guns. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
