Headquarters, 30th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 129 (December 20, 1944)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Bernard D. Horn (ASN: 35897042), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 117th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 2 October 1944, in Germany. When an attack against enemy positions was being made by his company, Private Horn voluntarily took a bazooka and crawled forward under heavy fire to a position from which he fired at an enemy pillbox. Without assistance, he sent two rounds directly into an aperture of the pillbox, neutralized the enemy fire, and enabled his comrades to advance and capture the enemy strongpoint. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private Horn, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
