The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Robert W. Holt (ASN: 35374429), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 11 July 1944, in France. The infantry unit of which Private First Class Holt was a member was given the mission of filling in a gap between two other units. When they advanced beyond the lines of one of these units, their forward progress was halted by hostile heavy machine gun fire from the flank. Private First Class Holt was ordered to advance with his Browning Automatic Rifle and destroy the machine gun position. Although wounded by the hostile fire, Private First Class Holt advanced and destroyed the hostile emplacement. Afterwards and before receiving medical attention himself, Private First Class Holt helped to evacuate many of the other wounded and did not report for medical aid until ordered to do so. The fortitude and unhesitating devotion to duty of Private First Class Holt reflect great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Armed Forces.
