    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Second Lieutenant (Armor), [then Warrant Officer, Junior Grade] Henry F. Herman (ASN: 0-2015699), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Headquarters Company, 9th Armored Infantry Battalion, 6th Armored Division, in action against the enemy in Germany, during the period 26 March 1945 to 6 May 1945. Second Lieutenant Herman has attacked and at all times displayed outstanding courage, leadership, sound judgment, and devotion to duty, under the most hazardous conditions. On 26 March 1945, when the Battalion supply officer was wounded, Second Lieutenant Harman immediately assumed the duty and resupplied the task force despite intense enemy artillery, mortar and small arms fire. Later, leading the main body to its objective, they completely disorganizing the enemy. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Second Lieutenant Herman, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
