The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fifth Grade [then Private First Class] Ralph Henson (ASN: 36620211), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 113th Field Artillery Battalion, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 29 July 1944, in France. Although he himself was wounded from a severe enemy bombing and strafing, Technician Fifth Grade Henson examined three of his comrades to determine the extent of their wounds and to give first aid. He then assisted in their complete evacuation before he admitted to anyone that he had been wounded. Technician Fifth Grade Henson’s unselfish loyalty to his comrades was an inspiration to all who observed him and was in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
