The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Second Lieutenant (Field Artillery) Oscar F. Henry, Jr. (ASN: 0-1184512), United States Army, for gallantry in actin while serving with the 94th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Germany on 21 January 1945. In order to facilitate adjustment of supporting artillery fire, Lieutenant Henry established a forward observation post in the midst of advance Infantry elements. Ignoring intense enemy artillery, mortar, rocket, and machine gun fire, he accurately adjusted friendly fire on enemy installations until mortally wounded. Lieutenant Henry’s gallantry, skill, and supreme devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the Army of the United States.
