The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fifth Grade [then Private] Aldrick E. Hendrickson (ASN: 36194451), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 197th Field Artillery Battalion, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 30 July 1944. Technician Fifth Grade Hendrickson was assigned to duty with an artillery unit which was subjected to a hostile bomber attack which set an ammunition dump afire, which in turn endangered the lives of everyone in the vicinity. Technician Fifth Grade Hendrickson, grasping at once the hazardous possibilities, fearlessly and voluntarily ran to the blazing pile and began extinguishing it, despite the hostile aviation still overhead. By this courageous act, all saved for a few rounds of ammunition were saved. The personal bravery and dauntless courage of Technician Fifth Grade Hendrickson reflect great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Armed Forces.
