The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Medical Corps) John C. Henderson (ASN: 0-462708), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as a Medical Officer with the 315th Infantry Regiment, 79th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 1 October 1944 in France. When the battalion aid station suffered a direct hit from enemy artillery, and casualties were numerous among the immediate personnel Captain Henderson, despite the fact that he was unable to stand because of shell fragments in his back, directed the treatment and evacuation of the wounded form where he lay. His bravery and devotion to duty reflect Armed Forces of the United States.
