Headquarters, 3d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 366 (October 2, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Harvey E. Hemric (ASN: 34891218), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company K, 3d Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Germany. On 8 April 1945, at 1500 hours, near Stralungen, Germany, Private First Class Hemric and a comrade volunteered to clear two enemy-held houses from which effective fire was being delivered. Leaving covered positions these two soldiers advanced 100 yards through rifle fire, mortar, and automatic weapons fire, hurled concussion grenades in the German strongpoint and assaulted them. They emerged with eleven prisoners, and thus enabled their company to continue to move forward and secure their objective. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private First Class Hemric, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
