The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Chaplain’s Corps) Jerome John Healy (ASN: 0-535153), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as Chaplain with the 314th Infantry Regiment, 79th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 8 July 1944, at La Haye du Puits, France. Chaplain Healy accompanied a squad of litter bearers through a heavily mined area to go to the aid of the wounded. While the litter bearers evacuated one wounded soldier Chaplain Healy remained at the side of another despite the fact that he was in an exposed position in close proximity to the enemy. His gallant action and devotion to duty without regard for his personal safety reflect highest credit on Chaplain Healy and the military forces of the United States.
