The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Field Artillery) Jerome B. Hasameier (ASN: 0-1169145), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 118th Field Artillery Battalion, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 7 August 1944, in France. Captain Hasameier was serving as a liaison officer for a field artillery organization delivering artillery support to an infantry force, which was engaged in repelling a fierce enemy counterattack. During the action, Captain Hasameier was in direct contact with opposing forces for a long period of time. At one time, his observation post was completely surrounded by the enemy, and the area was constantly under fire from German tanks. With complete disregard for his personal safety, Captain Hasameier remained at his post delivering such effective artillery fire that he made a material contribution to the eventual repelling of the counterattack. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Captain Hasameier, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
