The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Silver Star to Private First Class Cemil Hamad (ASN: 35231358), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Headquarters Company, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in France. On 8 November 1944, at 2100 hours, near Deyfosso, France, Private First Class Hamad engaged seven enemy forty yards away in a bitter fire fight to prevent them from rushing his platoon that was then in the process of reorganization. Although the enemy directed machine gun fire at him, Private First Class Hamad stood his ground armed with a Thompson sub-machine gun and hand grenades. As a result of his courage he succeeded in killing one, wounding three and forcing the remaining enemy to withdraw. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private First Class Hamad, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
