The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private James E. Hall (ASN: 33889889), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 7 April 1945, in Germany. During a fierce enemy counterattack, Private Hall commanded a squad of men and directed their fire against the approaching enemy. During the ensuing fire fight he was wounded in the chest but remained with his squad directing their operations. While directing a withdrawal he was wounded twice more. He then directed their advance forward and while pushing the enemy back was wounded a fourth time, causing his evacuation. Private hall’s gallant leadership resulted in securing the company’s position and reflects great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Armed Forces.
