Headquarters, 3d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 366 (October 2, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Staff Sergeant George I. Hall (ASN: 33132183), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company B, 1st Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Germany. At 0300 hours, Staff Sergeant Hall directed the members of his combat patrol into skirmish positions against the enemy road block guarding Miltenburg, Germany. Then in the face of enemy small arms and panzerfaust fire delivered from a range of 100 yards, Staff Sergeant Hall skillfully led his squad in a half-hour running battle climaxed by a rush on the German positions in which seven enemy soldiers were killed and eight taken prisoner. Staff Sergeant Hall was killed in a subsequent action. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Staff Sergeant Hall, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
