The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Corporal Henderson Calvin Howard, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 30 June 1862, while serving with Company B, 11th Pennsylvania Reserves, in action at Glendale, Virginia. While pursuing one of the enemy’s sharpshooters, Corporal Howard encountered two others, whom he bayoneted in hand-to-hand encounters; was three times wounded in action.
